mémoire de diplôme : Exploring Alternative Knowledge Transmission: Raising Awareness of the Multi-dimensional Significance of Overlooked Organisms, with a Focus on Lichen

Direction : Adrien PAYET

"The Anthropocene, when viewed as a cultural concept in discourse, possesses the capacity to challenge established narratives by integrating entities beyond the human realm.

Amongst the likes of contemporary designers, artists and researchers with growing global awareness comes the emergence of practices that integrate biological elements, such as plants, mycelium, bacteria, algae and other living forms. The dynamism of the living materials disrupts the conventional boundary between the creatives and their chosen mediums. When working with organisms that are growing and evolving, an entirely different relationship is formed. Science is often perceived as an objective discipline that primarily focuses on data, facts, and empirical evidence; there is an apparent lack of sensibility that could be included as an effective medium to share knowledge. This paper immerses itself in a context that highlights lichens, an often overlooked group of living organisms. The objective is to unveil the intricate nature of lichens, weaving together aspects of aesthetics, science, industry, and philosophy, through exploring diverse transmission methods"
